News Empathy - Have Mercy

News writing has affected me this week, & I knew it might come up in the interview. I work for a conservative radio station in St. George, UT. It's a conservative town already, and I had yet to have any of the county Democrats. So I called the president of the Washington County Democratic Party & wanted to give them a chance to come in & tell their views on certain issues like immigration, gerrymandering maps in the news recently, a newly approved road coming through a reserve area & anything else they wanted to have their conservative neighbors know about them.

When they came in, they were noticeably nervous that I was there to debate, & I really wasn't. So we talked off-air that I just wanted them to have a voice to tell their views. And they did.

When the hour was over, I learned that they want border security too. And that they feel that the state legislature has too much power. And that we all pretty much want the same thing. But just disagree on how to get there.
