When you have the ring & have a wedding date, you have a hundred calls to make. When you are ready to book a DJ, here are 5 things to keep in mind...

  1. Book Early!

In your area, know when are the busiest wedding seasons are. In northern (cooler) areas, summer weddings are very popular. In the south, spring& fall are the times that weddings are happening. So be aware that DJ's book well in advance...sometimes a year in advance! Once you know the date & venue, book your DJ even if you don't have the first dance & daddy/daughter dance music picked out.

That can come later. SAVE THE DATE! :-)

  2. Get In Touch

Check your DJs website for an information page. At Sound Cake, we have an step-by-step info sheet to help you organize the music, itinerary & events that will happen so we can take it & run the schedule & let you enjoy your guests. It includes things like pre-ceremony playlist, specific songs for the wedding party procession, bride walk & everything right down to the last dance & send off. Our success if your happiness & satisfaction with what we bring to the party.

  3. Have a Point Person

Not everyone has a wedding planner & that ok! But someone that can be your messenger in case there are changes to the itinerary will help keep things running smooth. When announcements need to be made, music swapped or thins paused so the bride can clean cake out of her nose (it's happened!), your point person can be the one to relay it to the DJ.

  4. Be Flexible

We always say there are 1000 ways for something to go wrong with your event. And only one way for it to be completely perfect. Things will come up that will need adjustments & that's ok! A cousin spills juice on the dance floor, a breaker pops, or a bridesmaid rips her dress. Just breathe. We'll get through this together. We've experienced all the challenges & we know how to handle them. So relax & we'll figure it out!

  5. Have a Music Plan...or Not!

Sometimes a bride & groom have VERY distinct & specific music they want played. We LOVE that! We have all the music you need. Sometimes they are more free-spirited with their music tastes but have SPECIFIC artists or genres that are a NO-GO! We LOVE that too! This date is all about you. We'll call & visit a couple of weeks before your big day & go over the info sheet & dial it in so it's exactly how you like it!
